Alcoholic Dreams

The morning light is harsh

After sleeping in the basement

A half remembered night of

Blurry vision and empty bottles

Alcohol drips on the floor next to

Full ashtrays and scribbled paper

Confessions of love long since hidden

Behind walls of inhibitions

Regret, remorse, and embarrassment fill my head

As smoke fills my lungs from another cigarette

My bloodshot eyes tell the story

To everyone I meet

How my addictions haunt me like demons

And there is no angel to chase them away
