Listen
Shh
Listen
To the pavement pulse outside your door
A riot rhythm in the city streets
The veins of the monster surrounding you
Towering over you everywhere you look
Your individuality isn't so unique
In the eyes of the crowded city
Where passing people blend together
Into faceless beings on the sidewalk
One by one they move past
Each less different than the last
Shh
Listen
To the neon lights buzzing in the night
See the glow of the artificial world
Pour through your bedroom windows
Causing you to toss and turn in your sleep
Keeping everyone from sleeping peacefully
Causing the morning to seem irritable
Making sure we're all just angry enough
To ignore common courtesy in public
Each person becoming what they hate
Continuing the cycle forever and ever
Shh
Listen
To the wind rustling the leaves
In one of the last preserves of nature
Surrounded by the endless urban sprawl
Trees seem so unnatural in the city
Dwarfed by the skyscrapers they stand next to
Soon they'll be uprooted for more sidewalk space
The last bit of natural color gone
Leaving the city grey and downtrodden
A bland and colorless world
For bland and colorless people
